Born in Dorset to a second generation Polish mother and German father, Laura Ward grew up in Münster and Nottingham. Her childhood dream was to be an actress and archaeologist before a trip round Italy with a second-hand Pentax ignited her lifelong passion for the visual.
Initially inspired by lazy train rides, Chiaroscuro films and the inlay sleeve of Pearl Jam's Vs, Laura now finds motivation everywhere and strives to spot the beautiful and interesting in even the simplest subjects and surroundings.
Her award-winning work has been published in books, record sleeves and galleries in Europe and England, as well as in her own book Appear When I Sleep. Most recently, Laura was invited to be a Getty contributor and exhibited at Bazaart in East London and People, Signs & Resistance at the 198 Gallery in South London. She is closely involved with charities and local communities in London, and works as a mentor and therapeutic photographer to children, teenagers and adults.
Laura moved to London in 2001 and lives there today as a part time photographer and full time charity professional. She likes making playlists and drinking tea.
Laura is a founding member of The Apollo Project in Herne Hill, alongside Jon Hughes, Seth Jacobson and Kyp Kyprianou.
